Duxbury Beach Reservation

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Amy Bishop

1. Why do you choose to volunteer at Duxbury Beach Reservation?

I chose to volunteer for Duxbury Beach Reservation because I felt that I could help make a difference in our community by helping to raise money and awareness for the projects that they are undertaking. I also wanted to meet new and like minded people here in our town since we recently moved here this spring. The beach is such an essential part of life in Duxbury and we need to make sure that steps are being taken to keep it healthy and protected so we can continue to enjoy it- which is part of the mission of DBR!

2. How did you first get involved with Duxbury Beach Reservation? And what has been your favorite project to work on with DBR?

I first got involved with DBR this spring when I was looking for a way to contribute in our community and saw the post on Duxbury Newcomers Group that they needed volunteers to help with the annual fundraiser, this year called the Beach Ball. They mentioned needing help with decorations and since I'm an interior designer and stylist, thought it was the perfect fit! We had a lot of fun designing the different decor items around the beach ball theme and really got creative to make the event look amazing. It was such a collaborative effort and I really enjoyed working with everyone at DBR and all the other great volunteers.

3. What do you wish other people knew about Duxbury Beach Reservation?

That the people who work with DBR are truly incredible and work tirelessly in their efforts to support the beach and put on a great fundraising event. I was very impressed by each team member's dedication and knowledge of all things Duxbury Beach and can't wait to work with them again in the future!

4. What is your favorite spot on Duxbury Beach?

My family's favorite spot on Duxbury Beach is the outer beach but on the bay side so my 3 year old son Max can swim and hunt for hermit crabs. Since moving here he has been fascinated with learning about all the creatures we can find along the shore and has not wanted to leave the water. I hope we can sneak in some last minute beach days this fall!

5. What do you do when you aren’t volunteering?

When I'm not volunteering I'm working with clients designing amazing homes in the area, being with my family and preparing for baby number 2!
